Priceline wants to save you a few hundred dollars
By wade | July 3rd, 2008
I had never been much of a fan of Priceline until I saw a study showing that they are actually the cheapest of the flight-booking sites. Now I see these package deals and I think they are probably great prices: Save up to $325 on Big City Packages!
Priceline has these offers whereby you can book your flight and your hotel to big cities with them and save up to $325. Honest to god, Priceline is a cheap site for booking things, but I don’t quite understand why they always say you can save up to $325. That part of the offer makes me suspicious because someone flying from Reno to Las Vegas for 3 days won’t be able to save as much as someone flying from San Diego to New York for a week. And yet it’s always up to $325. I don’t get it, but I still like Priceline.
Get the best deal on international flights
By wade | July 2nd, 2008
Part of my job is to find the best travel deals I can and then write about them here, but this summer it’s been challenging. Hotel deals can be pretty good, but airfares are rough. This is probably your best deal for international flights: Vayama.com – Compare 100’s of international airfares on one web site.
Their motto at Vayama seems to be that they’ve solved international travel, and while I’m not sure if that’s true or not I can tell you that they do a really good job at finding the lowest airfares available at any given time. There’s something to be said for that, so even if they don’t completely solve international travel, we’ll give them props, which is short for proper credit if you didn’t grow up in the ‘hood like I did.
Expedia has several last-minute hotels under $40 per night
By wade | July 1st, 2008
With airline prices so high it’s really nice to come across some excellent deals this summer, and this is one of them: Last-Minute Hotel Deals at Expedia.com
I’ll admit that the ‘under $40 per night’ hotels I mentioned are in Las Vegas and Orlando, but those are still like half the normal price or even less. These last-minute deals are good for the next two weeks or so, and they have cheap hotels at many different cities so it’s worth a look. They have quite a few different hotels in New York City for around $150 per night, and trust me, that’s a really good deal and these are decent hotels with good locations.
This Coupon Code expires today, so get on it!
By wade | June 30th, 2008
Coupon Code Mondays have been a big favorite among our regular readers, and I’m not sure if this week will go over well or not. This code expires today, June 30, although there is a chance they’ll extend it for a month based on our recent discussions with Travelocity: Take $50 Off Las Vegas Last Minute Packages. Use PROMO CODE: VEGAS50LMD. Expires 6/30/08.
If you are unlucky enough to be finding this coupon code deal after Monday it still might be worth clicking on it to see what happens, but those of us who are here today can book a great last minute Las Vegas package at a great price and then take $50 more off. And in case you haven’t looked closely at the so-called last minute offers lately, they usually mean 2 or 3 weeks in the future. So you’ll have plenty of time to pack your bags and then also research a system to beat the house at roulette or keno or whatever you prefer.
Cheap Caribbean lives up to their name with this deal
By wade | June 27th, 2008
While some of us are scrambling for good deals for the summer, people who think ahead are already planning their fall trips, and those people have just hit the jackpot with this: Caribbean Fall Sale Getaways From $349!
That’s right, you can get a one-week deal for $349 to Barbados including air. I’m really not sure what’s going on in Barbados that makes it this cheap, but the photos make the place look really nice. It says Barbados is a very beautiful island, with lots of art, activities, night life, music, history, so why is it so cheap?
In honor of summer, Funjet has hot deals
By wade | June 26th, 2008
You may remember that I wasn’t originally too fond of Funjet because of their silly sounding name, but the more I look at their offers the more I like what I see. Funjet is currently offering some very tempting packages they call “hot deals”: Hot Vacation Deals
Funjet Vacations offers hot deals on travel packages. Check out this week’s exciting destinations!
On the main page you’ll see deals to Cancun, Las Vegas, and Orlando, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. Funjet also has packages to Europe, the Caribbean, and many other places as well. They have a package to Rome right now that includes free hotel nights as well as free meals. I love free meals just about anywhere, but getting them in Italy has got to make the food taste even better than it already does, which is pretty damn good anyway.
Southwest has great deals on family vacations right now
By wade | June 25th, 2008
Regular readers of this column know I’m not a huge fan of some aspects of Southwest Airlines, but also that their vacations department does a really good deal arranging discounts. Right now they are offering some pretty good deals on family vacations and I thought you guys might want to know about it: Southwest Airlines Vacations Family Destinations
They’ve got really good deals to California and Florida, so those interested in a Disney vacation should be pretty happy with these packages. They’ve also got specials to many other places, and wherever you are going Southwest is a great place to start your search for an affordable trip. They already have pretty good prices on flights, and they arrange good deals at hotels to go along with them for you.
Beach vacations are on sale, and not a moment too soon
By wade | June 24th, 2008
The weather is heating up all over, so many of us are thinking of booking a trip on the beach somewhere. The fine people at Expedia have just blessed us with a pretty nice sale: Book your Beach Travel on Expedia.com: Plan a sunny, sandy escape!
They’ve got good trips to Hawaii, Florida, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and just about every other place that has hotels or resorts on beaches. With the exchange rate situation being what it is, it’s nice to see that packages to Mexico are still mighty cheap for Americans. People tend to think of Mexico more as a winter destination, but that’s exactly why it’s such an affordable place the rest of the year. The weather is similar in summer, and hurricanes are quite rare, especially on the west coast.
Coupon Code Mondays are heading south of the border once again!
By wade | June 23rd, 2008
You already know that this is our Coupon Code Monday spectacular, and this week we are heading back to Mexico with this great last-minute offer: Take $75 Off Mexico Last Minute Packages. Use PROMO CODE: MEX75OFF. Expires 7/31/08.
This is called a Promo Code again, but these things work exactly as coupon codes do, so these qualify to be featured. You might be hearing some people talking about a “staycation” this year, but those people are losers. You can book a good package deal down to Mexico for about the same price as that paint you were going to buy for the honey-do project of yours. In 10 years you’ll need to paint again anyway, but the memories of your Mexico trip will be forever.
Up to 50% plus free nights! What are we waiting for?
By wade | June 20th, 2008
Searching for great travel deals for this column becomes a bit more challenging during summer, but I guess I wasn’t looking in the right places because this one is stunning: Save 50% off Sandals Luxury Resorts, Click Here!
Regular readers know that I’m not usually big on these all-inclusive vacations, but that’s mostly because I can’t afford them myself under normal circumstances. It’s much easier for me to make fun of them than it is for me to book one, so that’s been my strategy up until now. But things have changed, and I think at least a few of you are going to be seeing me down in Jamaica, mon!
